Barton Carroll makes Love & War

December has been a slow month for new music ’round these parts, and a busy time of year in general. Thanks to Skybucket Records, though, today I had a chance kick back, relax, put my feet up and enjoy some new sounds from earlier this year that I missed, courtesy of Barton Carroll. Birmingham-based Skybucket Records trades in acoustic, americana artists that aren’t over-produced, over-hyped, or just plain over-the-top. I know next to nothing about Barton Carroll, save for what the label’s site tells me, and in truth, that’s relatively needless information for you: all you need to know is that this is Carroll’s plaintive, confident voice will enchant you as you listen. He sounds like a more earnest Will Oldham, with less weirdness in the mix. The album Love & War is available now by going here.
