Itchy and scratchy

Have you ever gotten a rash from shaving your genitals? I mean, the kind of rash that comes on as the hairs start growing back in, and the tiny little folicles rub and itch your skin, making it feel like a million little tentacles are brushing against your basket. It’s not as irritating as it sounds… actually, it kind of feels good, because it makes your body twitch and move, kind of like dancing. I’m not sure why, but listening to Brooklyn’s Pora! Pora! made me think of that sensation. All in a good way.

Pora! Pora! “So Cinematic”

They’re unsigned as of right now, but if there’s some justice in the world, that should soon change.

Heroes of the Sidewalk

When you live on an island that until recently was only accessible by ferry, you’d probably not know much about the tedium of gridlock. And yet, Prince Edward Island’s Two Hours Traffic have been releasing albums chock full of super jams loaded with bumper to bumper pop goodness. Joel Plaskett produced their latest, Little Jabs, and the boys of Two Hours Traffic are taking their wares on the road, stopping in my neck of the woods–Hamilton, Ontario–to host a CD release party at the Casbah with the Spades and Marble Index on September 7.

Two Hours Traffic “Stuck For The Summer” (from the album Little Jabs 2007)

The video for “Stuck For The Summer” was directed by Yael Staav, and can be viewed below:

Who doesn’t want to give me love?

NYC’s Murder Mystery claim to be taking over the universe and beyond with their take on infectious pop sounds, and are full of the schutz-pah to do it. Oddly enough, Jeremy Coleman’s voice sounds exactly like one of the Johns in They Might Be Giants (I think it’s Linell, but I can’t be too sure), and somehow TMBG’s sense of playfullness and fun comes across in Murder Mystery’s songs, too. The band has opened for the like of Sondre Lerche, Apostle of Hustle and Fields, and now are set to release their debut, Are You Ready For The Heartache Cause Here It Comes. Get yourself ready to to enjoy hearing one of your new favourite bands for the first time.

4PLAY vol. 23

I’ve been away this past week, and thank Matt for keeping things going here at QBiM. I had an amazing week away, and have buried a hint about where I was in this week’s 4Play picks. If you feel that you know where I was, drop me a line at quickbeforeitmelts[at]gmail[dot]com and we may be able to compare notes.
