Like a hitman, like a dancer

With A.C. Newman, you know what you’re going to get.  That’s not a bad thing or a criticism; it’s just a matter of fact that anything he puts his name to is going to be smart pop that’s not afraid to rock out, or overstay it’s welcome.  Whether writing as head New Pornographer, or working on his solo material, Newman is the consummate musical economist, making the most out of simple hooks and melodies.

He’ll be at it again soon, with the January 20th release of his latest solo LP, Get Guilty.  Nicole Atkins and Jon Wurster (Superchunk/Mountain Goats) are just a couple of the musical guests already revealed, and we’re sure they won’t be the last.  Along with the Inauguration Day release of Get Guilty, Newman will take on a-Ha’s “Take On Me” for a Starbucks Valentine’s Day compilation CD.  That would definitely be a guilty pleasure.

Darn it… why am I not here more often? Every time I come on here, I find something I’m surprised I ever lived without. I promise to do something about this soon. Keep up the good work. –GREG
