I’m almost tempted to start a section of this site that deals specifically with future releases–whether it’s a continually updated list of albums and their impending release dates, or just a running section about music that’s not yet available. Looking ahead to 2009, there’s a lot that I’m anticipating, and thanks to Matt at You Ain’t No Picasso, news that there’s going to be a new Bishop Allen album in ‘09 puts them high on my list.
I credit Matt and YANP as being the blog that introduced Bishop Allen to me, and I credit Bishop Allen as being the band that made me genuinely want to start sharing music and writing about music, so they are in turn directly responsible for QBiM existing. Their song “The Monitor” was (one of) the first songs in my first ever post.
Christian Rudder and Justin Rice have let it be known that they’ll be releasing their third album, Grrr… on March 10th, via Dead Oceans (the label they signed to for their last album, The Broken String). This follows on from their big part in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist, a movie I have regrettably not seen yet. There’s no new music released from Grrr… yet, but Matt has located a live performance of a new track, “The Ancient Common Sense of Things”. I have embedded any YouTube for awhile, but I think a new Bishop Allen track is reason enough to do so.
Speaking of movies, a quick visit to their Myspace page also revealed that Justin Rice has been dabbling in the cinema again (you should check out Mutual Appreciation, a great rock ‘n roll love story). Last week, Let Them Chirp Awhile, a new movie featuring Rice, premiered in NYC. Keep your eyes peeled for it at your local cinema, especially if you live in bigger urban centres (unlike my tiny, measly backwater rattrap town).
