The Sound of Arrows

When was the last time that you were instantly overcome by a new experience, like, say, hearing a new song for the first time? I’m talking about the kind of experience that takes a nano-second to manifest a physical and emotional response from your body that is spontaneous and unexpected, that comes from your inner core and bypasses the self-conscience filter and goes for the gusto. Been awhile, hasn’t it? That’s why you need to listen to The Sound of Arrows, the latest heavenly pop hit makers to come from Swedish label Labrador Records. Their new single, “M.A.G.I.C.” is just what it’s name implies. If the sound of school girl giggles could be harnessed and crafted into melody and rhythm, this is what you would get. It’s so sunny and optimistic–and just so goddamn catchy–that you wouldn’t be mistaken for thinking that it’s some lost Stephen Tin Tin Duffy track (the more I listen to it, the more I hear “Kiss Me”). I may be a sucker for analogue synthesizers, but I dare you not to crack a smile listening to this magic.

“M.A.G.I.C.” is being released as a single in a few weeks, following Oskar Gullstrand and Stefan Storm’s debut “Danger” (you can hear that track at Myspace). Of the two songs, I prefer “M.A.G.I.C.” for it’s sheer effervescence and fun.
