Believe the hype

There’s a lot to love and a lot to be afraid of when listening to the music of Minneapolis duo Lookbook.  I love Grant Cutler’s synthesized instrumentation that goes beyond basic beats and squelches to fill out and colour the music with  moody textures and subtle flourishes of brilliance.  I’ve absolutely love Maggie Morrison’s sultry voice, and the way she works the nuances of her delivery without ever having to resort to over-the-top vocal acrobatics.  She understands the instrument of her voice and knows how to use it effectively.  I love how effortless “Believe The Hype” sounds, and how perfectly Morrison and Cutler seem to work together in the studio.  I love the fact that they hand-make their EPs when you buy them from the band directly, and I love that from just listening to one song, I desperately want more.

I’m afraid that you’re going to have to settle for this precious gem for now, but head over to their Myspace to check out a couple other tracks from the EP, I Fear You, My Darkness, or go for the gusto and download it via iTunes now.
