Here We Go Magic

The first thing that came to mind when I heard “Only Pieces”, the opening track on Here We Go Magic‘s self0titled debut was, “How did they get Paul Simon to do guest vocals?” Main man Luke Temple’s voice could be a dead ringer for Simon in his younger days, and there’s a certain vibe to this album that is reminiscent of some of Simon’s work. Once you delve into the album a bit deeper, you’ll find that Temple has his own style and way with textures and sounds, making Here We Go Magic a real aural treat.
Temple wrote and recorded the album at home using analog synths, a cassette 4-track, and his SM-57 mic, bathing the album in homemade goodness. The excellent “Fangela” pops with a blissed-out, stream-of-subconscious rhythm that makes it sound like it was written and recorded while in deep REM sleep. The whole album actually feels like Temple may have dreamed it up rather than actually physically recording it.
Whether awake or dreaming, Temple’s voice on is own is enough to hypnotize and enchant you; add to it his beguiling musical textures, and Here We Go Magic truly becomes what it’s name implies: magic. the album is available next Tuesday at most fine music emporiums. Be sure to check it out.
