Method of modern love

DAMN!  2009 just keeps getting better and better!  Between the new album from a revitalized and fighting fit Morrissey and the kick-ass new jam from Doves, it feels like I’m being transported back about ten years in time.  Adding to the time-warp sensation is the ABSOL-FLIPPING-LOVELY new UK-only single from Saint Etienne.  Trends be damned, “Method of Modern Love” is a classic dancefloor filling anthem and the best thing Bob, Pete and Sarah have done in almost 10 years.

Why has Saint Etienne never received the appreciation and recognition they deserve?  They’re such a bloody fantastic band who understand how to craft catchy, brilliant pop songs that flirt with dance and disco and indie rock.   They are a perennial staple of my music collection, and “Method Of Modern Love” has just shot up to the top of my list of favourite saint Etienne tracks of all time.  Sarah Cracknell is one of the greatest vocalists I’ve ever heard: sultry, sophisticated, talented and alluring.

It comes along at the same time as new greatest hits collection called London Conversations, set to be released February 17th.   The track is produced by remix maestro Richard X.  Here’s hoping that we get more than just a one-off single.

Ladytron has just announced that they’ll be releasing a new EP in March entitled Tomorrow which is essentially a collection of remixes of the Velocifero track “Tomorrow”.  Fans of the band will have a chance to see them in tour this Spring as they head out on the road with The Faint.  And if that’s not enough Ladytron for you, get ready for the new Christina Aguilera album!  Seems the band’s been writing material with her, too.

All this crap “video teaser” stuff with Peter, Bjorn and John is finally over (I hope).  Word is they have a “proper” video for “Nothing To Worry About”, the first beat-heavy single off new album, Living Thing.  That album hits the stores march 31st, you can see the video here:

It’s Saturday, and Ruby Isle have a new cover of the top Elbo.ws track this week:  Black Lips fall victim to the Ruby work-over:
