I always wanted to like Eric’s Trip more than I liked Sloan, because I thought it would be cool.  Eric’s Trip were more Sonic Youth-heavy compared to Sloan’s Nirvana-lite (this was pre-Twice Removed), but try as I might, it just didn’t click with me.  I pretty much resigned Eric’s Trip to the dustbin of Canadian musical history until I heard the voice of Julie Doiron rising above the clatter of Polaris Prize nominees a few years back, and found out she was once a member of the band.

Doiron has made quite a name for herself since those bygone days, and is returning to the musical fray (not that she’s been away at all) with a new album next month, I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day.  The first song to be released from it definitely recalls her work with the ‘Trip.  “Consolation Prize” is thick with distortion and melody, not surprising since Doiron worked with fellow ‘Tripper Rick White (who also produced her 2007 album Woke Myself Up).

I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day will be out on Endearing March 24.
