Leaving Las Vegas

I sort of feel like I’ve been taking tow steps forward and one step back these past few days.  On Saturday I fell out to California with a lay over in Las Vegas, and then Sunday, after having been in California for less than 24 hours, I hopped in a car and headed back across the high desert to Vegas for a few days to soak in the city properly–or as proper and a s place called Sin City can get.  This was my first experience in Vegas, and it was quite the eye-opener.  I’m still not sure what to make of the excess, success, and s-e-x of the city, but it certainly was much more than I could have ever imagined it to be.

The one nice thing (besides spending tie with my family) was the amazing landscapes I got to seeing when we left Vegas and headed back to Southern California.  I’m forever in awe at Mother Nature’s beauty in this part of the world.  So, tying that into today’s blog post, I thought I’d direct you over to my good friends at the Contrast Podcast who have devoted this week’s episode to mountains.  I haven’t listened to it myself yet, but it certainly is a timely episode theme (for me at least).

Also of a timely nature is the delightful return of Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle with a new album, Yours Truly, the Commuter, set for a May release.  Stereogum brings us the goods with a new track called “Brand New Sun”, which is also fitting given the day I’ve spent basking in the glow of sunshine that’s not going to make it’s way to my neck of the woods for a few months yet.
