The sweetest thing

The quiet intensity of Tracyanne Campbell’s voice is the most recognizable element of Camera Obscura‘s sound, but even a voice as emotive and passionate as hers needs an equally powerful vehicle, and the band assembled around her has grown into a tight, cohesive unit. Album number four, My Maudlin Career, is due out in April, but already, with one single track, I’m enchanted. Campbell says of the recording process: “We were even more open and brave when making it than we were with the last record. I’ve never been so brutal when its come to writing lyrics. I wouldn’t even call them lyrics. Just documentation of what was going on with me for a while.”
Fans of the band’s pastoral musical landscapes won’t be disappointed, as Jari Haapalainen returns to the production chair after his excellent work on Let’s Get Out Of This Country. The new album is set for release on 4AD (a new label for them) on April 20th and the band have a number of UK dates scheduled around that time (check their site and Myspace site for details).
