Cymbals Eat Guitars

When your lead vocalist goes by the name Joseph Ferocious (nee D’Agostino) its hard not to sound as untamed and wicked as Cymbals Eat Guitars does.  There’s a debt to be paid to late 90s American indie rock, but Cymbals Eat Guitars aren’t a tribute or covers band; instead they are crafting their own sound out of riffing guitars, blasting trumpets and dazzling pianos and keyboards, demonstrating their own ability to craft a new pop sound out of traditional instruments.

The band is from Staten Island, New York, and feature, along with Ferocious on vocals and guitars, Neil Berenholz on bass and vocals, Daniel Baer on keyboards and vocals, and Matthew Miller on drums.  earlier this year they independently released their debut album, Why There Are Mountains, which of course has received all kind of coverage from you-know-who, but all of it justified.  These guys are drawing out their own map to success, and not simply bandwagon jumping or recycling their heroes’ former glories.
