Los Angeles guitar dream

Last year I posted about Brooklyn-based band Spanish Prisoners, calling them a “avant folk chamber noise pop band”.  A year on, I’m not 100% sure what I meant by that, but listening to their new EP, Los Angeles Guitar Dream, I think I get the gist of what I was trying to say.  They’re not  a band that easily fits any kind of neat classification or description.  There’s elements of dreamy folk, fuzzy shoegaze, and rippin’ rock, but they seem to bore of a single genre quickly, preferring to thropw as much into the mix as they can.  In a forum that shall not be mentioned, a certain fellow blogger who shall remain nameless executed the online equivilant of a heckle towards yours truly for having been a supporter of the band.  He’s certainly entitled to his opinion, as I am mine, and in my opinion, I think this latest Spanish Prisoners release has the start of something unique and intriguing.  It’s funky, quirky, and definitely not your run-of-the-mill indie pop.  Although the EP is brief at only three tracks, I can imagine it being the basis for a pretty strong set on a full-length release.  Los Angeles Guitar Dream is available for free via Bandcamp, at the link below.

Thanks to The Music Slut (again this week!) for directing us to Spanish prisoners’ recent Daytrotter session, and thanks for directing your clicky pointer icon to the track below:
