Toronto’s Fighter/Lover haven’t struck on any new formula for combining dance music and punk rock aesthetics, but the duo has managed to make it sound fresh by ensuring that melodies don’t get lost in the mix of electro-noise and feedback.  Roey Shemesh (bass, vocals, guitar) and Howard Goldbach (synths, sampler, vocals) used to play music under the moniker Idiots! but that name belies their whip-smart and über-cool groovy music.

Fighter/Lover have been getting a fair bit of attention for their video “Girl From the North Pole” playing now on their Myspace page, aas well as the handfull of songs they’ve posted there.  Comparisons to the likes of Chromeo and Woodhands seem obvious when listening to/watching Fighter/Lover but–and this may just be my impression–they don’t seem to have the same kind of tongue-in-cheek attitude that those other bands have.  When listening to Fighter/Lover, I don’t get the sense that there’s some big insde joke that I’m not privvy to, and that makes the music more accessible, and quite frankly, more enjoyable.  With Fighter/Lover, you get the impression that they do what they do because it’s who they are, and not because it’s the cool or hip thing at the moment.  That’s a refreshing change.

Heyo, I run a music blog http://www.kickinthepeanuts.com and we’re starting to plan a site makeover. We love Quick Before It Melt’s theme, clean and simple, and were wondering if it was one you guys made, or it was just a generic wordpress theme you found out and about on the internet… if it was, we’d love to know what it was (don’t worry, we’ll customize it until it’s barely recognizable, we don’t want to steal your thunder :) ) let us know!! thanks so much, you guys have a great blog!!
