Gods of thunder

I’ve been anxiously awaiting word of an official release from Zeus (whom I first introduced to you here) and lo and behold, when it actually happens, I miss it.  Last week, Arts & Crafts quietly slipped us Sounds Like Zeus, the band’s debut EP, available as a digital download from their GalleryAC online store.

The EP features two tracks previously available via Myspace (“How Does It Feel” and “I Know”) and three new tracks: the piano-thumping “Marching Through Your Head”, “Cornerstones” and a fabulous cover of Genesis’s “That’s All”.  It all amounts to an impressive collection of songs, and would form the basis for one kick-ass of a record.  I can only assume that plans are still in the works for a full-length release sometime soon (as they’ve been talking about a record called Something Awesome since January).  Sounds Like Zeus more than whets my appetite for more.  Our buddies at Herohill.com posted their review of the EP just the other day, do check it out, and check out their great site if you haven’t already done so.

The band was originally made up of Mike O’Brien and Carlin Nicholson, both members of Jason Collett’s touring band. Both guys are/were members of Paso Mino, who began touring as Collett’s backing band during promotions for Idols Of Exile. While on a break from Paso Mino/Collett duties, O’Brien and Nicholson began working on some recordings that they never planned on releasing, but eventually they began to realize that there was something special going on.  From those humble beginnings, Zeus has been fleshed out to include their long-time friends Rob Drake and Neil Quin.  Things seem quiet gig-wsie according to the band’s Myspace page, fuelling my hopes that they’re too busy in the studio.  Here’s hoping!
