Kestrels prepare to paint us with Primary Colours

I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Primary Colours, the debut album from Truro/Halifax natives Kestrels, and won’t have much longer to wait for it.  Slated for a July 14 release date, this fantastic band is sure to please anyone who digs The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Moscow Olympics and any of the other new-wave of drone-rock bands.  I’ve decided to retire the “s” word descriptor (you know, the one that rhymes with “glue maze”) when trying to describe their music because there’s nothing heads-down about these guys.  Kestrels play full-out, heads up noisy melodic pop that makes your ears hum and your speakers bleed.

Chad Peck (guitar/vocals), Adam Hartling (drums/bass), and Marcus Fiddes (drums/bass/vocals) have been working on their debut for the last three years, visiting six different studios.  They are self-proclaimed sticklers for details, and have crafted exquisite limited edition 12″ vinyl and digipak CD versions of Primary Colours, and are including posters, buttons, and one-of-a-kind photos with download codes with some of the vinyl orders.  Pretty ambitious stuff for a new band just releasing a debut album, but rest assured Kestrels aren’t just putting a fancy package on mediocre product.

Proof positive comes by way of the fantastic “Our Velocity” and new single “Sailed On”.  Both songs highlight the sprightly innocent spirit of the band, and are the perfect soundtrack for summer drives with the wind in your hair.  You can pre-order the whole album by visiting the bands official site (see link below) or ask for it at your local record shop and make those bastards in dirty flannel and black framed-glasses work for a living.
