It’s amazing what a well place email can do for a band that doesn’t even truly exist. Take note, intrepid musicians flogging your wares to countless blogs! Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist Josh McIntyre started working on some home recordings and buoyed by the response of his friends, posted the music on the net under the name “Little Girls“. He sent a link to Gorilla vs. Bear, and soon enough found his psycho-surf-adelic music at the centre of some big blog lovin’, and now he’s signed to Paper Bag Digital (quickly establishing a name for themselves as one of the most diverse and exciting labels going, let me tell you!) who’ve released his first EP, Tambourine.
I’m totally digging the no-wave meets surf waves sound of the EP’s title track, and the slammin’ “Ebonics” that’s streaming over at his Myspace site. Think Pixies with more Joy Division influences, and you’ll get pretty close to what they’re all about. Little Girls are going to grow up pretty fast, as they hit the road with another recent QBiM noisy favourite, Japandoids in late July. They’ll be at home in Toronto for NXNE later this month.
