“More songs about dead hockey players, cannibalism and lesbian school teacher,” is how Dave Bidini (ex-Rheostatics) describes The Land Is Wild, his most recent musical outing, this time under the name Bidiniband.  Bidini is joined by fellow former Rheostatic Don Kerr on drums and guitar, guitarist Paul Linklater, and Doug Friesen on bass.

Bidini has spent most of his time lately as an acclaimed writer, playwright and composer.  He’s been working on a new novel, Home and Away, about Team Canada’s adventures at the 2008 Homeless World Cup of Soccer (Bidini sits on the advisory board for Team Canada).  For fans of Rheostatics, this new material is a welcome addition to your record collection.  As always, Bidini and co. sound so quintessentially Canadian, you’re sure they bleed maple syrup.  Full of references from across the country, Bidiniband blend rock, pop, folk and country in many marvelous and twisted configurations, that you’re sure to find something to appeal to your own musical sensibilities.

We’re awaiting any news of a possible tour in support of the album, so watch your local newspapers in the coming weeks to see if Bidiniband is going to be rolling into your town soon.
