Two Hours Traffic mark their “Territory”
A mere two days after posting on The Danks, I get news of a new disc from fellow PE Islanders Two Hours Traffic. As I mentioned in Tuesday’s post, Alec O’Hanley (guitar) and Andrew McDonald (bass) do double duty in the two bands, and they’re joined in the THT lineup by lead vocalist Liam Corcoran and drummer Derek Ellis. Their sophomore album, Little Jabs, was produced by Joel Plaskett and garnered the quartet a Polaris short list nomination last year, so why fix what ain’t broke? Plaskett joins the band in studio again for Territory, set for a September 8 release. Three is Plaskett’s lucky number, and I think that the charm is going to rub off on Two Hours Traffic; if the title track is anything to go by, Territory is going to sound absolutely fantastic. The song has Little Jab‘s sunny disposition, but lyrically, the song is heavier (a tale of disillusionment and betrayal). Any way you cut it, “Territory” is a fine fine slab of power pop goodness, and sets the anticipation meter to “giddy little school girl” for the full album.
For the record, my favourite moment if the sing is at 0:24 when Cocoran stresses the “ch” in beach at the end of the song’s opening lyric: “Caroline, you say you don’t like the beach”. I could listen to that “ch” over and over.
