You’ll go far

It doesn’t take long when listening to Jenn Grant’s second album, Echoes, to understand why so many people are falling over themselves to sing her praises.  Her angelic voice and lush folk-pop songs are very easy to listen to, but Grant is no slouch when it comes to her lyrics; she’s the type of songwriter that demands you to listen closely so as to hear the subtlety of the mournful break-up stories therein.

Originally from Price Edward Island, Grant moved to Halifax in her youth and studied art at college in her new province before making a go at music again (she had tried in her teens but was sidelined by stage freight).  Lucky for us she’s been able to cope with the jitters, because since she’s returned to music, she’s created two fantastic albums that have garnered her Best New Artist and Best Female Artist awards at the Nova Scotia Music Awards in 2006.

Echoes was released by Six Shooter Records earlier this year, and will most likely be atop many Best Of lists by year end.  If you like what you hear here, be sure to check out her debut, Orchestra for the Moon, released in 2007.  At only 29, Grant’s future is looking incredibly bright; my guess is that her song, “You’ll Go Far” is just a portent of great things to come.
