NEW MUSiC: Taken By Trees “Watching the Waves”

The last album I added to my Best-of-2008 list was Taken By Trees‘ Open Field, the solo(ish) debut of former Concretes singer Victoria Bergsman (you know, the chick who sings on “Young Folks”). Open Field was a haunting, atmospheric album that just sort of crept up on me and found its way into my psyche. I often listened to that album late at night, sometimes falling asleep to it. I think its a highly underrated album, and one that deserves further attention, especially in light of news that Taken By Trees has a sophomore LP ready to go.
East of Eden is scheduled for a September 8 release and is preceded by “Watch the Waves”, a bit of a thumping track thanks to its mainly percussive arrangement. Since I haven’t heard anything else from the album yet, I can’t say whether its indicative of the sound of East of Eden as a whole, but it is an intoxicating track all the same. The album was recorded in Pakistan, and will be accompanied by a short film that was made there during the recording process.
Another Taken By Trees must-hear is their absolutely awesome version of “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. Classic.
