4 for the weekend 2.0

How long have you been reading QBiM?  Do any of you remember when I used to do the 4 For the Weekend posts, and have 4 songs, sometimes even give the four albums the songs were from away?  It’s been awhile since I had one of those posts, and they might turn up again at some point along the way, but today’s 4FTW is a different beast.  I’ve been doing some inbox cleaning and wanted to pass along some of the info I’ve been sitting on, and decided to round it all up into one nice neat package.  Four artists, 4 mini posts, but sorry no contest this week.  If I haven’t already wished you a Happy Thanksgiving, then let me extned my best wishes for the season.  Now let’s get to it:

I’m not one for gimmicky emails and the like, but when I found one in my inbox that consisted solely of a link to Eels‘ website with a rapidly moving countdown timer under the heading “End Times Are Coming”, my curiosity was peaked.  A quick ‘net searched revealed nothing by way of information, and it looks like we have about three months of waiting to find out what all the hullabaloo is about.

lest we forget that a mere few years back every one was all a-buzz about Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, their front man Alec Ounsworth is getting set to release a solo album, Mo Beauty on October 20th.  You know the drill about these kind of solo debuts already:  “ambitious”, “soulful”, “new directions”, and though his trademark vocals are hard to miss, there’s is something intriguing about the track “South Philadelphia (Drug Days)” that’s available over on WXPNPitchfork and Stereogum have some tracks to offer from the new disc, too.

Bad Lieutenant have released a video for their first single, “Sink Or Swim”.  In case you need a refresher, this is Bernard Sumner’s new band, still sounding very New Orderish, but with more acoustic guitars.  I hate to say it, though, but Barney got fat.

Sunparlour Players are pretty ambitious, attempting to hit both Canadian coasts this fall and winter.  they’ve already come and gone through my neck of the woods, but if you live in Medicine Hat, Thunder Bay, Charlottetown or Lethbridge, you’ve still got time to check these guys out.  Dates can be had at their Myspace page.
