Happy Friday the 13th! This week’s 4FTW post is coming a bit early, as I’ve got my hands full trying to take care of last minute details before taking off for NYC on Monday. Things will be a bit quiet around here for the weekend, but I’ll be back blogging on Monday with the second installment of the newly launched QBiM Q&A feature. This week’s interviewee: Kirk “Giant Hand” Ramsay.
Moby has a new project/band called The Little Death that includes Laura Dawn on vocals, Daron Murphy on guitar, bass, and harmonica, Aaron A. Brooks on drums, with ol’ baldie on bass and guitar. Very old school blues and soul sounding, like Dusty Springfield, or as director John Waters describes them, “Ike and Tina minus the beatings”. Loverly.

The Bravery had a track a few years back that I really loved called “An Honest Mistake” that sounded like it could be a long lost Duran Duran track. They have a new LP coming on December 1 called Stir The Blood, and a track from the album is available on the Vampire Diaries soundtrack now:

Keeping with the loose theme of blasts from the recent past, Editors are coming back with a new New Order-lite track (come on, tell me you don’t hear echoes of “Blue Monday” in this!). “Papillion” is the first single from their new album In This Light and On This Evening.

Speaking of New Order, Never Cry Another Tear, the debut album of Bernard Sumner’s new band Bad Lieutenant is now out. I’ve listened, and though I’ve got nothing really bad to say about it, it’s failed to make any great impression on me. Still, “Sink or Swim” is a pretty decent track, indicative of the sound of the album as a whole. I guess I was just hoping that maybe Barney would use this as an opportunity to branch out a bit and explore some new terrain. Instead, it kind of feels like he’s playing things safe and keeping his cards close to his chest.
