New Final Fantasy: Heartland‘s “Lewis Takes Action”

Really, there’s pretty much no need for any preamble here:  Domino Records has proven that there really is a Heartland–the much anticipated third album from Final Fantasy is scheduled to be released on January 12, 2010.  Described as “a fully orchestral record, designed to exist simultaneously as an album, a 45-minute piece of orchestral music and a set of songs for looped violin and voice”, Owen Pallett goes on to explain, “The songs themselves form a narrative concerning a farmer named Lewis and the fictional world of Spectrum.  The songs are one-sided dialogues with Lewis, a young, ultra-violent farmer, speaking to his creator.”  No big surprise here, as Pallett first took us to visit Spectrum on his 2008 EP, Spectrum, 14th Century.  He also states that: “While writing it, I kept an image in my head of putting so many notes on the page that the paper turned black.”  Again, not a huge surprise, given the direction he’s been taking Final Fantasy in as of late.  If you head over to the Domino site now, you can get yourself a copy of the song by turning over your email address, but to save yourself some inbox clutter, I went and got it for you:
