NEW MUSiC: Pink Moth

As I write this, I’ve been suffering from a head cold for a couple of days.  I know that my equilibrium is off due to congested sinuses, but I’m wondering if my hearing’s being affected by this illness, because every new artist I listened to today seems to remind me of someone I am already familiar with.  The most striking of these similarities is Toronto’s Pink Moth, essentially the solo work of Ray Cammaert, whose somewhat mournful “Carnival Girl” reminds me of The Hidden Cameras.  Cammaert’s voice is very similar to Joel Gibb’s, and his simple and evocative orchestrations share Gibb’s talent for making the most out of very little.

Pink Moth recently self-released The Wild LP, and it’s available at some of Toronto’s finer indie music stores.  It was recorded at the band’s own Tinshop Studios and mixed by Andy Magoffin (Great Lake Swimmers) at his House of Miracles studio.  Cammaert and longtime partner, illustrator Willow Dawson, were the primary musicians on the album, while Miichael McGuffin, Mika Posen (Forest City Lovers), and Joan Watson all contributed to the twinkling twilight sounds.
