4 for the weekend 01•23•10
It was originally released as a holiday gift, but Montag ‘s (Antoine Bédard) Des cassettes et un Walkman jaune, an EP of some unexpected cover versions, is the perfect weekend gear-up/come-down music any time of year. He re-imagines tracks by The Breeders. Low, Unrest, PM Dawn (WTF??) and a mashes-up Bronski Beat and Eurythmics, then gives the whole thing away for free through his bandcamp page. Merry Christmas indeed!
Montag apparently has a new record in the works for 2010, but news of its release and any details are pretty scattered. There’s been quite a bit of remix work lately, and some sound design for Montreal theatre and dance shows. Montag’s last record, Going Places, featured guests like Amy Millan, M83, and Own Pallett. Maybe Bédard will be keeping similar prestigious company for the new record? Here’s hoping.

I’m happy to announce the return of Josh Rouse, whose fantastic album Nashville was a favourite of mine a few years back. El Turista is a Cuban-inspired album set for release on March 9. Spinner has the first fruita:

While I don’t know as much as some other bloggers do about El May, I do know that what I’ve heard of Lara Meyerratken’s solo project I like so far. She’s been a gun-for-hire for a few years now, and is setting out on her own, and doing so in style:

Two week’s ago, 4FTW brought you news of jj‘s new disc, and a slice off their last one. Now we have some new noodlings for you to get your groove on (what??):
