Plants and Animals are off to La La Land

Recently, Grant Lawrence posted a pretty comprehensive guide list to upcoming Canadian album releases. Perhaps our musicians have been inspired by our national athletes to make this year a memorable one for Canada, because at a glance, the list bodes well for 2010 (for big names and unknowns alike I would say) and the fun and games has already gotten underway.
The latest news out of Secret City is that Plants and Animals are set to take us to La La land on April 20. The follow-up to the Polaris-Prize nominated Parc Avenue is another adventure in high-brow lo-tech: recorded live-to-tape, and sounding big and bold and beautiful. That’s no easy feat for a three-piece, but somehow Plants and animals manage to make more out of less. It took some time for me to come around to appreciating Parc Avenue initially, but it’s been one of those albums that I go back to after a spell, and it still reveals something new and intriguing that I didn’t notice before.
Secret City has the first sample of the LP available now (as do I below), and the band will be launching the disc properly with a show at Montreal’s La Tulipe on April 22 (that’s Earth Day, friends, and a certain blogger’s birthday). More details about gigs and the disc will be forthcoming, but for now, put on this track, jump up and down on your sofa and tell Oprah how much you dig Plants and Animals:
