Sleep patterns

With only four songs on their debut EP, Guelph Ontario’s Memoryhouse have been attracting a lot of attention south of the border from some of your go-to blogs of indiedom. Most likely, they’ve been attracted to the duo’s stately cover of Grizzly Bear’s “Foreground” which transfers vocal duties to breathy female lead Denise (no last names offered). On their own tracks, Memoryhouse build atmospheric gloom worthy of a David Lynch film soundtrack without falling so far into a pit of misery that some glimmer of hope is all but impossible. “Sleep Patterns” suffers a bit from Denise’s odd sing-speak tone, but “Lately (Deuxiéme)” features a more pleasant chanteuse-like vocal cascade that washes over you.
There will apparently be more coming from these two in the near future, but for now, you can check out The Years EP– soon to be available as 7″ vinyl–on Arcade Sound Music. They have it available as a free download.
