4 for the weekend 27•03•10

I’m pretty pumped up about High Violet, the new album from The National scheduled for release on May 11th.  They played “Terrible Love” on Jimmy Fallon a few weeks back, and now have given us “Bloodbuzz Ohio”, a classic National track: tight, taunt, and melodic to a fault.  The band has two dates scheduled at Massey Hall in June (8th and 9th) with The Antlers as opening act.  That’s one show I would love to see.  If you’re interested on when they may be coming through your town, check out the full list of announced dates here.

Broken Social Scene have released a double A-Side single from their forthcoming Forgiveness Rock Record.  “Forced to Love / All to All” is available now through the Arts & Crafts online store, or on iTunes.  Initial listening leaves me disappointed in the wake of how great “World Sick” is, but that seems to be the way with BSS and me.  A ‘hit” is usually followed by a “miss”, but I’ll reserve overall judgment for when I hear the album as a whole.

A little blast from the past is the return of Teenage Fanclub, who’s new LP is called called Shadows and will be out June 8.   They’ll be heading over to this side of the Atlantic in September.

The Most Serene Republic recently announced that member Emma Ditchburn is leaving the band for other endeavors.  The band released “Longevity Please”, a b-side from the sessions for their latest record, …And the Ever Expanding Universe and the last recording Ditchburn made with the band.  A new EP is planned for this summer.
