Apollo Ghosts

Do you remember that initial confusion when you’d play an LP at 45 rpm?  Cassettes and CDs pretty much eliminated any technological hiccups like that, but lately I’m finding that MP3s can re-create a similar kind of head-scratching experience.

Last week when I clicked a link to hear the latest from Apollo Ghosts, “Things You Go Through”.  I inadvertently clicked the link twice, thereby opening two windows playing the same MP3 twice.  I had some pretty impeccable timing with those clicks because it wasn’t until the vocals started that I even realized what I’d done, although I suspected that there was something slightly wrong with what I was hearing.  When played on it’s own “Things You Go Through” is a sweet little lo-fi ditty that’s like a whip topping made from blending the most obscure music of the past 20 years in a food processor: one taste and you’ll keep dipping your fingers back in the bowl for more.

The band’s new album is called Mount Benson, and it’ll be out May 4.  Keep your eyes peeled for a full review here in the coming weeks.
