News from Bruce Peninsula

(photo: Yuula Benivolski)
It’s certainly been a while since I brought you any fresh news about Bruce Peninsula, whose debut album got them a longlist nomination for last year’s Polaris Music Prize. Earlier this month I got word that the band has been at work in the studio with Toronto-based quintet Muskox to record a new version of the song “Shanty Song” from the aforementioned debut LP A Mountain is a Mouth, which they’ll release as a split 7″single in partnership with their own Bruce Trail Records and Kingston, ON’s Apple Crisp Records. The backing track will be a collaboration between two Kingston bands, The Gertrudes and PS I Love You, with a limited run of 500 vinyl singles being made available.
Bruce Peninsula have already embarked on their first set of live dates in the U.S., which culminated in their official showcase gig at SXSW on Thursday (presented by Paper Bag Records and Chromewaves). They have shows in Toronto and London later this week if you’re interested in catching them live. Check their Mysapce page for show details.
