Sunday screening: Lucky Soul’s video for “Woah Billy!”

This feels a little bit unprecedented, seeing as how I haven’t made two posts in one day since the very beginning of the blog, but I have lots already scheduled for this week, and I wanted to share this video with you.  And it truly deserves to be watched and enjoyed, which is why, after I added it to the video stream in the menu bar to your right, I decided that it deserves it’s own post.

Lucky Soul are releasing their their sophomore disc, A Coming of Age next week, and having blown the video budget on big string sections (their words not mine), they decided to mark the release by writing, producing and filming the video for single “Woah Billy!” themselves.  And they’ve done a bloody fantastic job!  This is direct from the video’s Vimeo home:

“Everything from storyboards to sets, lights to animation we did ourselves and the film was shot on a long Saturday in Ali’s front room by guitarist Ivor Sims (who also directed the video for our first single) The video uses some really old Pelham marionette puppets that bassist Russell used to play with when he was a kid. They’re very macabre and have that disturbing Punch and Judy feel so we went for a Grimm-esque narrative with a distinctly non-Grimm disco breakdown.”

So without further ado, please check out this great, DIY video:
