Put your records on

Happy Record Store Day everyone!
Wake the kids from their slumber, flick the sleep from your eyes, swab the wax from your lobes and get dressed in your Saturday best. It’s that one day of the year when we unshackle ourselves from the shift key-and-click way of buying and listening to music and get our atrophied leg muscles moving again, heading downtown or uptown (depending on your slant) to your favourite indie record retailer (if you still have one) and exercising your consumer right to rock.
The official Record Store Day website lists all participating retailers around the globe, so you can certainly find a shop near you. I’m heading down to Atomix Records in St. Catharines Ontario to see what goodies they have in store (get it?). A number of labels and artists have special releases and limited edition records available in honour of the third Saturday in April, but you’ll have to check the retailers in your area to see what they have in stock. There are also thousands of live performances happening in these shops today, too, so if anyone would like to share photos and stories about their Record Store Day experience, please head over to the Quick Before It Melts Facebook Page and feel free to upload your photos and share with the rest of us.

One further note: If you’re digging that gorgeous photo above, then you MUST visit Fifty Foot Shadows, photographer John Carey’s site where he hosts all kinds of free wallpapers for your computer, iPhone and iPad. I have a folder of his pictures that randomly rotate as my computer’s wallpaper, so I never have to have just one. He’s great. Tell him I sent you.
