NEW MUSiC: The Wheat Pool Behind the Stars EP

One of 2009′s great lost records was Hauntario, the sophomore album from The Wheat Pool.  It is a collection of perfectly crafted, heart-piercing roots rock that gets better and better with each subsequent listen.

The Wheat Pool have just announced the release of a digital-only EP called Behind the Stars that features alternate versions of songs from the Hauntario sessions along with some songs that didn’t make the album.  Their lovely cover of Neil Young’s “Helpless” is a gift to fans who’ve supported the band over the last few years.  It’s long been a live staple, and comes in two versions on the EP.  “Edith Cavell” was originally going to be on the album proper, but at the last minute was substituted for “Two Far Apart”, itself an alternate version of “Too Far Apart” (which was recently posted in these pages here).  “Evangeline” gets a stripped down treatment from the original, and “Woman”, a song written by the band’s close friend Ryan Waye, rounds out the EP.

Behind the Stars is available now from all digital retailers in Canada and the U.S., and will be released in the UK this summer.
