The Meligrove Band: back on the grid

Have you heard about this World Cup thingy happening in South Africa? Apparently it happens every four years and is a big deal. Know what else happens at four year intervals? New music from The Meligrove Band, the Toronto via Mississauga band who will be releasing their fourth disc, Shimmering Lights in September. I don’t think the gap between records 3 and 4 was intentionally orchestrated to coincide with a football tournament, but, hey, it’s Wednesday and I should get an A for effort in trying to connect to what’s going on in the world.
The Meligrove Band get A+++ for their efforts on lead single “Halflight”, a delicious slice of raucous power pop that bodes well for the full disc. After their extended absence, this new song puts The Meligrove Band right back into the Canadian indie rock game. Shimmering Lights is out on September 21 via Nevado Records. You’ve already missed their NXNE opening night gig at the top of the CN Tower last night (unless you were there), but those itchin’ for a fix of more Meligrove can see them close the conference on June 19 at Wrongbar.
