Weekend round up
Nothing makes a blogger happier than hearing progress and growth in an artist they’ve previously championed. Today, I’m a happy blogger, with news that Giant Hand has been hard at work on new material with The Acorn‘s Rolf Klausener and Pat Johnson. There’s a short taster of what the new recordings sound like over at the new and improved Giant Hand website, along with a look at the record art work. Apparently titled Starting As People, Kirk Ramsay says that a digital download card for the EP will be available at his upcoming shows in Wakefield, Quebec and Toronto (as part of this year’s NXNE). Here’s hoping that those of us unable to make those shows get to hear the new material soon.

Bruce McDonald, director of Hard Core Logo was the man behind the camera for This Movie Is Broken starring Broken Social Scene. Imagine a cross between concert film and love story if you will, and you’ll get a sense of what This Movie Is Broken is all about. The movie debuts in Toronto and Vancouver on June 25, with special screenings in T.O. (June 17) and NYC (June 11, 17). The trailer has been floating around out there for awhile now, and if this don’t get you hoping with excitement, then you’re probably a Justin Bieber fan.

New Broken Social Scene tour dates are available at their homepage, and it looks like the band is heading to Buffalo on September 25. Hmmmm, I wonder what I’ll be doing that day?
RCRD LBL was offering up Thurston “Mr. Kim Gordon” Moore’s remix of Crystal Castles‘ “Celestica” the other day. Interesting. Very.
Hey Rosetta! are on tour in the U.S. where Into Your Lungs (and around in your heart and on through your blood) is just about to be released (June 22). Those Yanks will never know what hit ‘em.
A few weeks ago I was gushing about The Love Language and their new disc Libraries, and now you can hear what I was fussing about. Merge Records is streaming the whole thing in their store as a pre-release sneak peak.

I didn’t go to see Arcade Fire in Toronto last night. But Frank did. See? He also saw The National at Massey Hall on Tuesday. Read.
