Fun to be had

There’s something religious-sounding about The Tom Fun Orchestra. I don’t mean that there’s a sacredness to the music, but just that this eight-piece band from Cape Breton Island have put their faith in old traditions and have chosen to make music that serves a power higher than themselves. Grant Lawrence once referred to them as “a Maritimes version of the Hidden Cameras fronted by the lead singer of the Misfits” and that’s an apt a description; Broken Social Scene covering Pogues songs works, too.
There’s probably a follow up to their award-winning You Will Land With a Thud LP (produced by Violent Femme Gordon Gano) on the way, but for now, The Tom Fun Orchestra are giving just a taste of things to come with new song “Miles Davis”. The band begin a Canadian tour tonight in Toronto at Sound Academy before taking to the road for the following dates:
Jul 29 – Midland, ON – Atlantic Challenge Tent
Jul 31 – Sudbury, ON – Townhouse Tavern
Aug 05 – Winnipeg, MB – Park Theatre
Aug 06 – Saskatoon, SK – Amigo’s Café
Aug 07 – Calgary, AB – Marquee Room
Aug 08 – Lethbridge, AB – The Slice Bar & Grill
Aug 10 – Victoria, BC – Hermann’s Jazz Club
Aug 12 – Vancouver, BC – The Shark Club
Aug 13 – Salmon Arm, BC – Salmon Arm Fairgrounds
Aug 14 – Salmon Arm, BC – Salmon Arm Fairgrounds
Aug 15 – Salmon Arm, BC – Salmon Arm Fairgrounds
Aug 19 – Thunder Bay, ON – Black Pirates Pub
Aug 21 – Montreal, QC – Il Motore
