Saturday morning Bieber fever

Odds and ends froom around the blogiverse this week. And Justin Bieber.

A quick search through the QBiM archives will reveal that this is not the first time I’ve mentioned Justin Bieber on this site, but it is the first time I’ve ever posted any of his music.  I am not familiar with Bieber’s “U Smile” but I’ve become totally engrossed by this version of the song that’s popped up online this week–one that’s been slowed down 800%.  This 35 minute masterwork has been described by NY Mag as “Sigur Rós doing Vangelis covers in a cathedral being washed away by the sea.”  Thanks to Exclaim for bringing it to our attention.  I think this is hands-down the remix of the year.  Fer real.

Long time no hear from The Antlers, whose hospice LP was top of the QBiM pops list last year.  There’s a remix of “Atrophy” by Sybarite floating around thanks to Hobnob Wines hip marketing team.

Last Saturday (or was it Sunday?  I think it was Sunday) I told you about the return of Sufjan Stevens via his upcoming tour, and now I can tell you that he has a new EP available for download for just a mere $5.  All Delighted People sounds like a mixed bag of workshopped material, experimental jams, but for Stevens completists, it’s a must-have.  If $5 is a little steep for you, you can also stream the whole thing via the Bandcamp site set up for the EP:

I have to give a shout-out to some local boys and girls who play by the name My Son The Hurricane and hail from St. Catharines, Ontario.  They’ve just finished shooting a video for the song “Ain’t My Style” and have come off the Canadian festival circuit, where their hip-hop infused big brass band sound garnered them a lot of attention.  I think some of you may dig it, So instead of a link to the video, I thought I’d just embed the whole thing for you here:
