NEW MUSiC: PS I Love You

Every time I turn around these days, there seems to be a new duo making magnificent, noisy pop. You can now add Kingston, ON’s PS I Love You to that ever expanding list, and put a couple of stars next to their name, because this is one band you’ll want to remember.
Originally PS I Love You was the solo project for multi-instrumentalist Paul Saulnier who previously had been a part of a country-rock band. The intention was for PS I Love You to be his experimental, pop music outlet. With the addition of Benjamin Nelson on drums, Saulnier’s little songs started growing into anthemic rockers, full of angst and attitude. While they’ve been cheered for championing the gritty 90s, the stamp of 80s electro-pop is all over their music and living rooms (note the vinyl copy of Power, Corruption & Lies leaning on the piano above). It’s a potent mix, and the more I listen to PS I Love You, the more I’m inclined to reciprocate their name back at them.
The song “Facelove” shared a 7″ single with Diamond Rings’ “All Yr Songs”, sparking a lot of interest in the duo, who’ve recently signed to Paper Bag Records. Their debut, Meet Me at the Muster Station will be released October 5, but you can hear a sample of it now, thanks to the good good people of Pitchfork, who posted “Butterflies & Boners” and “2012″ earlier this year. If you need a more immediate fix of PS I Love You, Paper Bag is selling the self-titled EP Saulnier recorded solo back before Nelson joined him. You can procure a copy in the Paper Bag Records digital store now.
