If it’s Saturday, this must be Le Concorde

New music from an early QBiM fave, plus news from TPOBPAH, Bishop Morocco and Holy Fuck

Four months into writing QBiM I posted about Le Concorde, a project from one Stephen Brecker in perhaps one of the daftest posts in our history or one of it’s most creative (I’ll let you decide after reading it here).  That was way back in 2006, and now four years later, Le Concorde is back with a new record (although to be honest I don’t actually know if there’s been others in the interim) of nostalgic, dreamy indie pop that hearkens back to the simpler days of the 80s.  House would fit nicely into your record collection beside his contemporaries who also trade in retro-beats-and-bleeps (think Passion Pit, Cut Copy, and Hot Chip).  Brecker was a frequent figure in Chicago’s music scene, but he’s recently moved back to his native California, and the sunshine and laid back vibe of his home state seems to have seeped into these sunny pop slices, even though the lyrics can sometimes be about broken relationships, lost opportunities and embracing the past while looking the future straight in the eyes.  If that sounds like it’s right up your alley, do search House out, as it hits the shelves this Tuesday.

Last year their self-titled debut made QBiM’s list of favourite albums of 2010, and this week news has come that The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are readying album No. 2 for a March 2011 release.  the as-yet-untitled album’s first single is called “Heart in Your Heartbreak” and should see the light of day sometime next month, but for now, let’s head back to this summer’s heady anthem, “Say No to Love” for a reminder of why we love these guys so much:

Hand Drawn Dracula signees Bishop Morocco has remixed “Stay Lit,” the lead track off Holy Fuck‘s LatinFader premiered the remix, saying that Bishop Morocco has “scaled back some of the gradual epicness of the original and given it the Sonny Crockett-on-his-way-to-a-drug-bust treatment.”  I think it sounds more like Bishop Morocco than Holy Fuck now, but not that it’s a bad thing:

In case you missed it, you can still download the Holy Fuck twist on Bishop Morocco’s “Last Year’s Disco Guitars”:
