It’s in the cards, pt. 2

(art: Francesa Tallone - http://patternclash.com)
Kristina Parlee (The Maynards) and her husband Ron Bates ( The Memories Attack) caught my attention back in April with their first release under the name Homo Duplex. 01 was a three-song EP recorded using a series of “random musical descriptors (speed, mood, instruments, etc.)” drawn out of a hat and doing their best to stick to what fate had assigned them. The new EP, 02, continues along the same trajectory. The songs blend and fuse styles and sounds without sounding like patchwork recording. Just like the last EP, limiting themselves to 3 songs makes you hungry for more of their electro-tinkering and synth beats.
Homo Duplex made their stage debut at Sappyfest during the Sappy 8: Live Music Videos, and recently made their full live set debut as part of a fundraiser on September 27th at the Dal Art Gallery in Halifax, and on September 30 at Barfly during Pop Montreal.
02 is available as a free download from Homo Duplex’s Bandcamp page . You can sample my favourite track from the EP below:
