NEW MUSiC: Pseudo Kids
They may tag their own music as “yacht rock” but I’d say a better fit for Florida’s Pseudo Kids would be “hot rock”, as one listen to “Save My Life”, the opening track from their EP the Lost Year would attest. You can get the EP now ahead of an imminent full LP release by visiting the band’s Bandcamp page. What you’ll find there is a no frills slice of lo-fi humbleness. They sound like they love whet their doing, and they sound like they’re doing it out of love as opposed to trying to get the attention of attention-challenged bloggers like me.
What I’m trying to say here (and failing miserably at) is that they deserve our attention, but aren’t making fools of themselves in the process. I get far to many gimmick-laden, attention-seeking emails every day where band’s hype themselves up, or masquerade as “friends’ of the band” who just want to let the world know how great these guys are. Fletcher Yancy of Pseudo Kids just dropped me a short, five line email saying, “hey we made an EP and hope you might listen to it”. He also called me by name, which let’s me know he’s taken a minute or two to visit QBiM (thanks, for that Fletcher), so that alone makes it worth my time to listen to his music. Of course, if the music sucks, then it’s all for not, but like I said, Pseudo Kids sound “hot” in all the best sense. “Goodbye Summer” is an addictive, deliciously layered bit of indie pop goodness that’s too good not to share with the world:
