Picture story friends goodbye

NEW MUSiC: New Socks

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that can give you the most pleasure.  That being said, the simple things in life aren’t always things we normally associate with pleasure.  Living, dying, loving losing, growing up and staying young at heart–all these things have a push/pull relationship with our hearts.  We cherish them all, for all different reasons.

What am I going on about?  It’s basically the emotional state of mind and stream of conscious thinking brought about by listening to New Socks, a folk pop band from Geneseo, New York, who popped their adorable second LP, Picture Story Friends Goodbye into my inbox last week.  They spent a year recording the album in an old farm house they lived, surrounded by “fields of growing things and singing birds” They sound like Laura Barrett and Belle and Sebastian and Forest City Lovers were all cross-pollinated in a field of wild flowers.

Ben Morey, Molly Kerker and Becky Lovell. We started playing together in 2008, releasing their first album, New So(ck)(ng)s the next year.  As they get set to rerlease the new album, the band is trying to raise some funds in order to give Picture Story Friends Goodbye a proper vinyl release and get out on tour, too.  They’re looking at teh lofty goal of raising $2000.00 by Sunday, October 31.  As of this past Saturday, they had 44 backers pledging $1779.00  If you want to help New Socks bridge the gap to their goal, check out the project page here.
