..And the sky opened up

Christina Simpson and Ricardo Khayatte made quite an impression on me back in August when their debut EP as The Reckoners first landed on my doorstep. At just six songs long, it makes a strong first impression for a duo who (fingers crossed) will have some new music for us in 2011. …And The Sky Opened Up is a beautifully produced blend of traditional folk and indie sensibilities. Their voices sound like they were made to sing together, giving these songs a fresh, natural feeling, as if they may have just been spun off sitting around a campfire late one night (which is apparently how the two first came to collaborate together).
It’s sometimes easy to miss these EPs with the deluge of full lengths that come out each year, so if you’re a fan of fantastic songwriting, sweet singing, and want to hear on of the best examples of it from this year, just drop me a line as CONTESTS [at] QUICKBEFOREITMELTS [dot] COM with “Open up my Skies” in the subject line and your mailing address in the body. One lucky reader will have the CD shipped their way just after the holiday.
