Friendly fires

Aidan Knight has a new EP/Single

A forgotten treasure of 2010 is Aidan Knight‘s Versicolour, his eight-song debut album released in February (and posted about on QBiM here).  At the time I said that Knight can “make more out of a simple arrangement than most musicians could do with a full orchestra”, and he’s further proving that with the release of Friendly Fires, an EP/single that came out last month, and regrettably I’m just getting around to now.

Once again, Knight takes his time making his point, forcing us to take a deep breath and slow down to take in his plaintive words.  “Friendly Fires” opens with a hush but ignites with a spark of beauty into a full-on gorgeous song, never overstaying its welcome or losing the listeners interest.  It’s not all that far off from Versicolour‘s sound, but you can hear Knight moving his ideas in new ways, playing with time, tempo and tone.

Honestly, I don’t know where you can get your hands on a physical copy of this 2-song EP, but , as the artwork boldly states, “All unauthorized duplication of this recording is pretty sweet,” so feel free to grab yourself the A-side below:
