November spawned a monster…
On the second last day of November The Dears released a new track from their upcoming new album Degeneration Street, and it kicks some serious ass. “Blood” is a harpsichord-laden slab of molten rock and is the most immediate The Dears have sounded in years. It’s less funky than the previous sneak peak they’ve given us in “Omega Dog”, but with just those two songs to go on, I’ve got high hopes for the new record. “Blood” has been on heavy rotation ’round here since I got it on Monday and I’m not getting tired of it yet. If anyone out there caught the band in one of their recent residencies in Toronto, Montreal or Brooklyn and got a chance to hear the whole album live, let us know what you think in the comments below. Admittedly, I haven’t done a lot of searching, but after a few Goggle queries I haven’t found any online discussion about how the new album shapes up.
Along with “Blood” The Dears have revealed the album’s artwork (as you can see to your left) and given us a look into how it was created via the video they posted here. If that’s not enough to tide you over until Dangerbird Records releases Degeneration Street on February 15, 2011, you can check into The Dears’ live stream every Monday in December, January and February at 7 PM EST to hear and see unreleased tracks.
