A dead child star is born

It was back in March of 2009 that news of a new Torquil Campbell solo project first surfaced, but we’re only just getting a ready-for-sale product from Dead Child Star, his collaboration with Julian Harris Brown of Apostle of Hustle. The LP Cold Hands, Warm Heart was made available via iTunes and youarestars.com last week and of course curiosity got the best of me, so I had a listen.
Campbell and Brown are joined by Andrew Whiteman (Apostle of Hustle, Broken Social Scene), Jimmy Shaw (Metric), and Minotaur Shock (producer) on a record that mainly recalls the early, more electronic leaning sound of Stars with hints of Campbell’s other musical project, Memphis (with partner Chris Dumont). There are some nice gems like the acoustic strumming and harmonious Campbell chorus on “Airport Life” to recommend the album to those who aren’t Stars devotees, but unfortunately, I can’t find any sanctioned songs to offer up as downloads for you to hear it for yourself. A quick trip to Hype Machine showed that no one had anything posted at the time this was being read, but SoundCloud was a different story; in any case, your best bet would be to head over to youarestars.com and sample Cold Hands, Warm Heart for yourself:

This Just In: Seems that a few days back, Arts & Crafts officially announced that Memphis will be releasing their thrid full-length, Here Comes A City on March 8, and offered up a track for sampling n(which I’m liking slightly more than the Dead Child Star stuff):
