Starting As People

It was almost nine months ago when I first brought you news that Giant Hand had gone into the studio to work on an EP with The Acorn’s Rolf Klausener. The resulting EP, Starting As People, was originally available via a digital download card you could purchase at gigs, but a physical version of teh EP is finally going to be available for purchase for those who couldn’t get to a Giant Hand gig.
For the uninitiated, Giant Hand is the stage name of Kirk Ramsay, the Ottawa-based singer-songwriter who taught himself to play guitar after seeing The Devil and Daniel Johnston. A year later, he was opening for the likes of Handsome Furs, Timber Timbre, Ohbijou, and even Daniel Johnston himself, and managed to write, record and release his debut album, Coming Home. I got Ramsay was to sit in the hot seat for one of the first QBiM Q&As, just after he had been named as one of the hottest acts in Canada in i(heart)music’s annual poll. It’s looking like he’ll be back on that list this year; Starting As People showcases Ramsay’s continued growth as a songwriter, and his collaboration with Klausener is a stunningly beautiful recording.
Starting As People is in stores and n iTunes on March 15, 2011. Giant Hand will hit the road for a CD release tour, too: March 17, Le Cagibi, Montreal QC; March 18, Raw Sugar Café, Ottawa ON; March 19, The Tranzac, Toronto ON.
