Wide open
According to their label, Hand Drawn Dracula, Mausoleum started to take shape back in the mid 2000s when Richard Forbes (vocals, bass) met Joseph Elaschuk (guitarist, multi-instrumentalist) at an abandoned brick factory in Toronto. It wasn’t the most family friendly place to hang out, but it suited the pair just fine. They eventually moved into a place in similarly sub-standard place where they could stay up late making all kinds of noise and host the occasional rave.
After stints as back-up in a variety of bands, Forbes and Elaschuk started a new project in 2010, recruited drummer Sean Dunal, and started writing over 20 songs that bounce back and forth between early NYC punk and mid 80s British indie rock. Mausoleum have just released a three-song EP and are working on a follow-up, as well as planning their full length LP which should see the light of day by the fall.
