On the road

A bevy of music to get you through March Break

As of 3:05 pm this afternoon, I’m officially on “me time” for the next week, and will be taking a break from blogging for the next few days, so forgive the brevity and abruptness of the following little nuggets of gold, but I’m desperate to clean out the inbox of as much news and music that I can so we can start fresh on Monday or Tuesday.  If you’re traveling this March Break, have a great time, but don’t be stupid.

The Provincial Archive will make Canadian tour history this spring by traveling coast-to-coast performing in Canada’s Provincial Archives.  Head Archivist (of the band) Craig Schram explains: “We had the idea last fall, when the Provincial Archives of Alberta asked us to perform in-house. We couldn’t help but laugh at the confusion that would ensue from the band playing a venue by the same name.”  So now, they will be out on a 30 day/27 show tour from St. John’s, NL to Victoria, BC.  they’re also releasing a new single, “Drive,” to mark the beginning of the tour.

Junior Boys have just announced that their fourth album will be called It’s All True and comes out in June.  The track “ep” is available from Domino Records as a free download for the price of an email address.

I don’t really know much about Louise Burns other than to tell you she’s a Vancouver-based singer whose debut LP Mellow Drama is coming out on April 5 via Light Organ Records, and that the song “Paper Cups” is kinda cool in a Rilo Kiley-but-cooler-sounding kind of way:

Okkervil River have a new album, I Am Very Far, coming out on May 10, and they’ve given us a preview:

I was about to put The Vaccines down to the next great white hype coming out of the UK, until I actually heard this bloody awesome 80-second track, and realized these boys are packing some serious power pop muscle:

There’s more where that came from on SoundCloudWhat Did You Expect From The Vaccines? will be out on Columbia Records May 31.
